My bands

Velstandsfanden

This is my personal fun-project. Here I can play and make music that I enjoy without bothering about what anybody else wants. While I don't intend to limit myself to any specific genre, it is currently non-technical, mid-paced punk/rock. The lyrics are and will be in Norwegian.

Velstandsfanden has it's own Funkwhale instance at punk.velstandsfanden.no, and a social network channel at @velstandsfanden@hub.volse.no.

Imbalance

Imbalance has been my main band for a very long time. It started it's life under the name Frost in 1996, but in 2004 the name was changed after an extended break and relocating the band from Trondheim to Oslo.

We've had some modest success with this band, releasing a couple of proper albums (under our own label, Calculated Imperfection), a music video and a few tours both within Norway and internationally.

Currently the band is on another extended break, but we hope to reignite it again sometime soon.

Musically we're playing fast/technical thrash/death metal.

Blastered

Blastered was a rather short lived band. I joined on bass pretty much after most of the songs for the debud album Aporia was written. We rehearsed the songs for about six months or so after that, booked TopRoom studio here in Norway. It took us a while to get the album out the door, but finally in 2020 it was released on streaming services and bandcamp.

The music is fast, but melodic thrash with an edge towards death metal.

I had a lot of fun playing with this band. Excellent musicians and fun people to be around. We still keep in touch regularly, and there's some talk about doing something more with it, but nothing concrete has materialized yet.

My previous bands

Mysterie (1995)

A solo project I made for myself the summer of 1995. Experimental music with a mix of guitar and electronic music composed with a mod-tracker. The music is quite primitive, and goes a bit in too many directions as I see it now. Also this was my first attempt at recording vocals, something its easy to hear I was uncomfortable doing and not very good at.

Recorded one demo on a four track tape recorder.

Ivar's Menn (1994/1995)

A cover band me and a couple of friends formed at Engineering school. Playing everything from Black Sabbath to Nirvana, and Danzig to Venom. The goal for the band was to play a concert at the school pub by the end of the year. Which we did, and to a much greater success than we had hoped for. People seemed to have fun, and the pub ran out of beer because they didn't think that many people would show up.

Supremacy (1992/1993?)

Thrash/heavy metal about. No recordngs exists as far as I know.

This was a band a friend of mine (Fred Størseth) started, and we rehearsed at my old school at Flatåsen in Trondheim. I can't remember if the band just fell apart, or if I left when I moved for my studies.

Thorns (1990/1991)

Now legendary early Norwegian black metal band. I played bass 1990-1991, including the famed "Grymyrk" demo.

This demo was never meant for the public, but was an internal recording so that Marius (vocals) and Faust (drums) could hear the songs and be prepared before we all met up in Trondheim for rehearsals. Me and Snorre lived in neighbouring streets at Flatåsen in Trondheim, but the other guys lived far off in Lillehammer and Oslo at the time.

Faust leaked the tape to the underground, and received a lot of praise from people central to what was to become the black metal scene. While the review linked from the Wikipedia page claims it was recorded in a single day, this is not true. I think we spent the better part of the weekend on it.

Mann Skutt med Øks (ca. 1988-1989)

Grindcore inspired band consisting of me and a few friends during high school. Performed at a couple of "rock competitions". At one "Trøndersk Mesterskap i Rock", we were joined by Snorre Ruch (later Thorns) on drums and performed our own song lasting 11 seconds.

At another similar event we played several songs and for maybe five minutes alltogether.

Some recording should exist.

The "permanent" members of this band was me on bass, Anders Rian (guitars) and Snorre Ruch (later Thorns, on drums). We also had Terje Buaas and TBJ on vocals for a short while each.

Stigma Diabolicum (1988?)

Me and a friend (Anders Rian) from high school. Recorded one track that was never released ("Gut Sucking Toilet" — inspired from a story on the inner sleeve of the first Carcass album Reek of Putrefaction.) somewhere around 1988 I think. Ditched the "serious" name at some point and turned into "Mann Skutt Med Øks".

A bit later Snorre Ruch took over the name for the new band he was starting with Marius Vold. Later they also ditched the name and became Thorns about the same time I joined on bass.
